The damper (1) has a piston rod (5) movably guided into a damping medium filled cylinder (7) in an axial manner. The rod supports a piston arrangement (3), which separates the cylinder into working chambers (9, 11). A fluid connection between the chambers is controlled based on movement of the piston rod by a switching ring axially movable between stop surfaces (33, 37). Sleeve bodies (27, 29, 31) are connected in a row arrangement between the stop surfaces, where each body has an axially running channel for bypasses and the fluid connection on its circumferential surface.
