The method involves applying thermosetting coating material (3) on a hydrophobic surface of a printing plate (2) in a printing machine. The coating material is hardened by irradiation or drying process, where the hardened coating material comprises a hydrophilic surface. The hardened coating material is removed by another irradiation image and is released by the hydrophobic surface of the printing plate image. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for illustrating a printing plate in an offset printing machine (2) an offset printing plate with a bearing, hydrophobic surface and a hard coating material, particularly lacquer.
