A coating composition is provided to ensure a relatively fast drying rate, and to form a glossy coating layer on a substrate. A method for coating leather or elastomer includes a step of applying at least one layer of an aqueous coating composition onto leather or elastomer. The aqueous coating composition contains (a) at least one anionically stabilized latex polymer having a glass transition temperature of 21 °C or higher, (b) at least one polyfunctional amine, and (c) at least one volatile base. An article comprises the coated leather or coated elastomer.
