The unit has a gear provided for an integral gear transmission ratio between a drive and a perforation cutter cylinder. The perforation cutter cylinder carries a perforation cutter along its circumference at circumferential positions, respectively. Number of circumferential positions corresponds to the integral gear transmission ratio, so that the perforation cutter cylinder is inferred from an absolute position of the drive to an absolute position of the cutter of the cylinder.
