A directly modulated or externally modulated laser optical transmission system with a feed forward noise cancellation function is provided to compensate noise in laser using directly modulated laser. A directly modulated or externally modulated laser optical transmission system includes a predistortion circuit(105), a laser(102), a frequency discriminator(115), a phase modulator(111), a phase shift circuit(117), an attenuator(116), and an amplifier(113). The laser generates a baseband optical signal including noise spread through a frequency spectrum. A modualtor modulates the amplitude of laser directly by an analog RF(Radio Frequency) signal to generate an optical signal having information-containing component and phase-modulated component. The phase modulator is coupled with the output of the laser and attenuates phase noise associated with the optical signal.
