<p>Additional markers useful for marking petroleum hydrocarbons, biodiesel fuels or ethanol fuels are provided. A chemical marker for marking a petroleum hydrocarbon, a biodiesel fuel or an ethanol fuel comprises at least one organic compound having: (i) an axis of three-fold symmetry; (ii) a nitrogen content of at least 8%; and (iii) a molecular weight of at least 240. The at least one organic compound is present at a level of 0.01 ppm to 50 ppm relative to the weight of a petroleum hydrocarbon, a biodiesel fuel or an ethanol fuel. The one organic compound contains at least three tertiary-butyl groups. The one organic compound has at least one of a cyanurate ring, an isocyanurate ring and a 1,3,5-triazine ring.</p> |
