The drive system for an all wheel drive vehicle (1) comprises a connection between a power take-off unit 6 and a propshaft (8) transmitting drive to and a rear drive module (9). A stub shaft 11 of the propshaft (8) is connected to the power take-off unit 6 by a splined joint 13, 15 to facilitate assembly when compared to a flanged coupling. A snap ring 18 engages with annular groove or recess 16 to lock the stub shaft 11 axially to the output shaft 12. A second, back-up groove 17, may be provided to limit axial movement if the sub shaft should be displaced from its normal position. In this case the snap ring 18 engages with groove 17. The diameter of the female splines rearward of the second groove 17 is greater, which gives rise to radial play and hence noise thereby alerting the driver that the system is malfunctioning. |
