A portable detector for detecting wiretapping devices and hidden cameras is provided to efficiently and rapidly detect a frequency available for wiretapping or secret photographing and to transmit detected wiretapping/secret photographing to a mobile phone through a CDMA network so that a user can definitely recognize whether wiretapping or secret photographing is being performed at a desired area. A portable detector for detecting wiretapping devices and hidden cameras comprises an RF module(102), a video processor(104), an encoder(106), a memory, and a CPU(108). The RF module receives peripheral radio waves. The video processor converts a secret photographing signal, received from the RF module, into video data according to a control signal. The encoder converts a still image among the converted video data in accordance with a data format suitable for a CDMA network according to a control signal. The memory stores the mobile phone number information of a user. In case that a signal received from an RF module is a wiretapping signal, the CPU creates a short message to inform the user that wiretapping is being performed and transmits the short message to the user's mobile phone through a wireless CDMA modem. If the received signal is a secret photographing signal, the CPU converts the secret photographing signal through the video processor and the encoder and transmits a converted still image to the mobile terminal through the wireless CDMA modem.
