A refiner for paper pulp has a rotor, e.g. mounted on a vertical shaft 9 and carrying vertical blades 7 on its periphery, and a stator formed of ribbed segments, e.g. each in two dovetailed sections, i.e. a ribbed working section secured to a base section with resilient spacers between adjoining base sections, the segments being urged inwardly towards the rotor by one or two annular tubes 16, inflated pneumatically or hydraulically through a valve 18 to a pressure indicated at 19 sufficient to force the ribs close to the blades, against the resilient pressure of the spacers. Pulp enters at 13 and after treatment leaves at 14. |
