A composition, a polymer composition containing the composition, and a coating or film obtained by coating the polymer composition on a substrate are provided to improve the optical transparency of a hydrophobic powder when combined to a polymer matrix. A composition comprises a surface-treated metal or metal oxide particle; and at least one compound for increasing the hydrophobicity of the particle. Preferably the compound is at least one selected from the group consisting of polyisobutenyl succinic anhydride(PIBSA), a PIBSA addition compound and a PIBSA reaction product. Preferably the PIBSA is represented by the formula. A polymer composition comprises the composition; and at least one matrix polymer selected from an aqueous polymer, an emulsion polymer, an aqueous polymer dispersion, an aqueous polymer colloid and an aqueous polymer solution.
