An apparatus and a method for encoding an audio signal, and an apparatus and a method for decoding the audio signal are provided to analyze reverberation components through the analysis of a space transmission function, and apply a mathematical model to the reverberation components of an encoded or decoded audio signal, thereby minimizing influence by a transient signal and providing a feeling of the sufficient volume. A reverberation signal analyzing unit(101) analyzes a reverberation signal included into an input audio signal(10) to generate filter coefficients(15). A reverberation signal removing unit(102) removes the reverberation signal from the input audio signal by using the filter coefficients. An audio encoding unit(103) encodes the audio signal of which the reverberation signal is removed. A signal combining unit(104) generates a signal(20) of combining the encoded audio signal and the filter coefficients.
