摘要 An ultrasound catheter calibration apparatus and an ultrasound catheter calibration method with improved accuracy are provided to improve accuracy in determining an intersection point between an ultrasound beam and a phantom. A probe calibration apparatus(40) includes a rigid mechanical framework(42), at least one field generator(44), a sound target assembly(46), a jig, and a processor(24). At least one field generator is fixed to the framework and generates a magnetic field of a recognized spatial characteristic. The sound target assembly is in recognized spatial relation to the framework and has a phantom coupled with a motion mechanism arranged to move the phantom in a recognized orbit with respect to the framework. The jig is fixed to the framework to hold a probe in the magnetic field of the field generator in an orientation suitable for an imaging device to image the phantom. The processor receives a position signal from a position sensor which responds to the magnetic field and an image signal from the imaging device which responds to reflection of a sound wave from the phantom when the probe is in the jig. The processor processes the position signal and the image signal to calibrate coordinates of the imaging device with respect to the position sensor.
