An apparatus and a method for receiving a signal in a communication system are provided to reduce complexity by using a minimum sum algorithm, a delay line, and a comparator. A signal reception apparatus includes an input unit(500), delay nodes(510-524) of dc-1 number, comparators(530-542), a controller, and an output unit(550). The input unit inputs an input message. The comparators are used for comparing messages inputted into the delay nodes with each other and outputting the message of the minimum size. The controller shifts circularly the messages inputted in the input unit and the delay nodes according to a predetermined control after the comparator outputs the final message. The output unit repeats operations of the input unit, the delay nodes, and the comparators as much as dc number.
