A backlight assembly and an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) having the same are provided to reduce external impacts applied to an edge of an LC panel during a drop test and the external impact, thereby preventing a seal disposed in the edge of the LC panel from being broken. A backlight assembly comprises a lower receiving vessel and a mold frame(110). The lower receiving vessel receives a light source for generating light. The mold frame is disposed in an upper part of the lower receiving vessel, and includes a body(111), a mount unit(113), a support unit(114), a spacing groove(115) and a first impact buffering unit(116). The mount unit is protruded to an LC panel(200) from the body, and supports a lower surface of the LC panel. The support unit is disposed in an upper surface(112) of the body, and supports a side of the LC panel. The spacing groove is recessed in a direction opposite to the LC panel from the support unit. The first impact buffering unit of a curved shape connects the support unit with the spacing groove. A second impact buffering unit(118) is formed on the support unit in a groove shape. |
