A method for providing reception limitation information and an image receiving device employing the same are provided to provide information based on which a user can clearly recognize access-conditional information and encourage the user to use a smart card suitable for an access-conditional channel. A controller checks whether an access-conditional channel is selected(S510). If an access-conditional channel is selected, the controller collects channel information, information about an access-conditional system corresponding to the channel and supplier information(S520). The controller checks whether a smart card has been mounted in a smart card mounting part(S530). If a smart card has been mounted, the controller collects access-conditional system information and supplier information of the mounted smart card(S540). The controller checks whether all the information have been collected(S550). If all the information have been collected, the controller checks whether the mounted smart card is a suitable one(S560). If the smart card is a suitable one, the controller controls an OSD generating unit to display corresponding information(S570). The controller controls a signal processing unit to display an image with codes deciphered by using a secret key(S590).
