The vehicle head lamp has a head lamp insert which generates a dipped light beam bundle with an upper light dark limit. The light beam bundle extends further on one side of the road than the other. The insert can be pivoted by an adjustment unit. The adjustment unit has a drive controlled by a control unit. A positioning device is connected to the control unit. This detects the arrangement of the head lamp insert in one pivot position and informs the control device. The control device then defines a start position for further pivoting of the insert.
