<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a contrast by suppressing the black floating in a state of suppressing a brightness change in the video displayed as an identical body in a liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: The pixel frequency distribution for every brightness level of the input video signal is extracted and the pixel frequency distribution of a specific color is extracted from the color difference signal of the input video of screen region specified from the brightness distribution of a plurality of the backlights. Based on the extraction result, the brightness controlled variable of the plurality of the backlights and the brightness correction amount of the liquid crystal panel are determined for every screen region and the brightness control of the plurality of the backlights is performed based on the brightness controlled variable.
