PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and a method for setting the image forming apparatus capable of arbitrarily changing a settlement/cancellation designation of setting before transition when transiting the setting screen on a display part. SOLUTION: Button operation switch setting is performed by operation input from an operation part 2. When an image forming condition is input by the operation part 2 and a screen is transited to return the screen to the setting screen where the image forming condition has already been input by a hierarchy display button being pressed, it is determined by a control unit 9 according to the set button operation switch setting whether the image forming condition input to the setting screen displayed before the screen transition is settled or canceled.
