The method involves driving the electrical machine by suitable current feed with enhanced stator dissipation loss during a cold start of the air supply unit such that the heat of the mechanical components of the air supply unit and particularly its bearings is recycled. The air supply unit is designed for a vehicle driven by fuel cells and the heat produced by the enhanced stator dissipation loss and also by the cooling water or by the heating of the vehicle is recycled selectively.
