FAST INDICATION OF UPLINK VOICE ACTIVITY

A mobile station operating in extended uplink TBF mode detects renewed data activity (810). Upon receiving an allocation of an uplink transmission opportunity (820), the mobile station determines whether a data block corresponding to the renewed data activity is ready for transmission (830). If the data block is not ready for transmission, a dummy block, comprising an indication that one or more uplink data packets are pending, is sent to the base station at the allocated transmission opportunity (850). The base station responds by resuming continuous mode scheduling of the uplink for the mobile station.
