<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that although the way of describing a color shift correction pattern in the space between an area to which an image is transferred and an area to which an image is transferred in a transfer belt, by using the space is adopted in a tandem type color image forming apparatus, when the interval between the images during printing is too large, the image printing speed is reduced and when the interval between the images is small, a highly accurate color shift correction pattern can not be described because the area of the region between the images is small. <P>SOLUTION: In the tandem type color image forming apparatus, when the color shift correction pattern CP1 or CP2 is described between the images, the length of the color shift correction pattern is made variable. The length of the color shift correction pattern is changed based on an operational environment as a color shift factor.
