<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manage merchandise based on radio tags by utilizing functions of conventional POS terminals adapted to a multi-stage bar code system. <P>SOLUTION: Radio-tag data containing merchandise management data about merchandise are read from a radio tag attached to the merchandise. It is determined whether the radio tag data has identification data that specifies the merchandise management data at a certain byte.
