<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device capable of reproducing colors in a wider color range, suppressing the output load of a laser and reducing power consumption. <P>SOLUTION: The image display device 1 includes: a main light source 6 emitting white light; color separation optics 16, 17, 23 separating the white light into three wavelength bands of a red band, a green band and a blue band; spatial modulators 3R, 3G, 3B modulating light in the three wavelength bands to form an image; a red auxiliary light source 8 emitting a red laser beam; and a synthesizing dichroic mirror 17 for a red color synthesizing the light in the red band separated by the color separation optics with the red laser beam. The synthesizing dichroic mirror 17 for a red color transmits the wavelength band in the emission spectral linewidth of the red laser beam and reflects light in a longer wavelength band to direct it to the spatial modulator 3R. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
