PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spectrophotometer having a function for removing a harmful substance deteriorating an optical element such as a diffraction grating or a mirror. SOLUTION: An activated carbon container 1 having high permeability and storing activated carbon powder is installed in a space in a light source chamber A, a spectrometer B or another device. The activated carbon powder stored in a permeable paper pack or the like is filled in the activated carbon container 1. Pores are provided on the wall surface and the upper part of the container to allow the external air to enter or go out freely. Hereby, harmful gas entering from the outside or oil vapor or gas generated inside the device can be adsorbed and removed by the activated carbon. A plate-shaped activated carbon can be used as an inner wall or a shielding plate, and thereby a secondary effect for suppressing unnecessary reflection or scattering can be expected.
