Disclosed is a composition comprising a plurality of encapsulating devices comprising a polymerizable high density ethylenically unsaturated polyethylene glycol (PEG) having a molecular weight between 900 and 3000 Daltons and a sulfonated co monomer; and a plurality of cells encapsulated in the encapsulating devices, wherein said composition has a cell density of about 100,000 cells/ml.
