<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric conversion element which is not deteriorated by heat and light and has a high photoelectric conversion ratio and stable characteristics when used continuously, and provide a solar battery. <P>SOLUTION: The photoelectric conversion element is provided with a semiconductor layer made to carry a compound expressed in general formula (1) and an electrolyte layer between counter electrodes. In the formula, R<SB>1</SB>to R<SB>3</SB>represent, each independently, a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group and an aryl group or a heterocyclic group, and R<SB>4</SB>an alkyl group, alkylene group and aryl group or a heterocyclic group. Provided, the alkyl group, the alkylene group, the aryl group and the heterocyclic group may have a substituent group, respectively.
