<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength selective polarization converting element capable of converting a polarization direction of a prescribed color light, and to provide a projector equipped therewith. <P>SOLUTION: The wavelength selective polarization converting element 5 is equipped with a wavelength selection section 51 and a polarization converting section 52. The wavelength selection section 51 is equipped with a color separation layer 512, which transmits color rays R and reflects color rays G, B and a reflection layer 513 which reflects the color rays G, B in substantially the same direction as that of the color rays R. The polarization converting section 52 is equipped with a polarized light separation layer 522, which transmits ray R(P) having a prescribed polarization direction among the color rays R and reflects other ray R(S); a reflecting layer 523A which reflects the ray R(S) in substantially the same direction as that of the ray R(P); a reflecting layer 523B which reflects the color rays G, B, a polarized light separation layer 522, which transmits rays G, B(P) having a prescribed polarization direction among the color rays G, B and reflects other rays G, B(S); a reflecting layer 523A which reflects the rays G, B(P) in substantially the same direction as that of the rays G, B(S) and a retardation layer 524, which is arranged on one optical path of between the rays R(P), G, B(S) and the rays R(S), G, B(P) and converts the polarization direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
