PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device with excessive lamp current prevented and capable of adapting discharge lamps with different rated powers. SOLUTION: The discharge lamps can be stably lit with similar ratings such as an FHF32 discharge lamp (with around a rated power: 32 W, lamp voltage: 130 V, lamp current: 240 mA) and an FLR40/36 discharge lamp (with around a rated power: 36 W, lamp voltage: 100 V, lamp current: 350 mA), since the sum of a voltage proportional to the lamp current and a voltage proportional to the lamp voltage is controlled to be constant.
