PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize stable high performance, low fuel consumption and high reliability, by sufficiently cooling an engine, while minimally maintaining the size of the engine. SOLUTION: A direct injection diesel engine with small displacement for a motor-vehicle is disclosed. This engine has a large number of cylinders arranged in a straight line. The respective cylinders are provided with two intake valves and two exhaust valves. These valves are driven by rocker arms by two camshafts arranged in a cylinder head. Intake apertures 2 and 3 and exhaust apertures 4 and 5 are largely reduced in the size of the whole engine, and an injector device is stored in the center of these, and a preheating plug is arranged so as to be housed between one intake aperture and one exhaust aperture on its one side. Intake and exhaust conduits (6, 7 and 8) are formed, to maximize engine performance, and to minimize fuel consumption. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
