PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner for a vehicle capable of attaining compatibility between energy saving and air conditioning performance. SOLUTION: This air conditioner 10 for the vehicle is provided with: an engine 14 driving the vehicle by power generated based on supplied fuel; an alternator 15 generating electricity by driving the engine; an engine ECU 22 cutting fuel supply according to the traveling state of the vehicle; an economic mode switch 100 capable of selecting one of a comfort priority mode prioritizing occupant comfort in relation to air conditioning control in a cabin of the vehicle and an energy saving mode prioritizing energy saving over occupant comfort; and an air conditioner ECU 64 increasing a quantity of air blown out of an air blowoff port arranged in the cabin larger than the comfort priority mode by electric power generated by driving the engine 14 after cutting fuel supply when the energy saving mode is selected and fuel supply is cut.
