Improved oxidation process and use thereof

Disclosed is a process for the selective oxidation of a 5-O-protected-LL-F28249-alpha compound of formula (II) wherein R is a protecting group, to the corresponding 23-keto compound of formula (I) which process includes reacting said formula II compound with a supported oxidising reagent, optionally in the presence of a solvent. The above described step is useful in the manufacture of moxidectin.
