PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize the display layout of an electronic document file, and to shorten processing time to be spent on the display of an electronic document file.

SOLUTION: A Web server 110 transmits display information transmission data and display layout information transmission data concerning a partial pages of an electronic document file requested from terminal equipment 120 to the terminal equipment 120. Then, the terminal equipment 120 generates a Web page for displaying a portion of pages of a requested electronic document file with display layout suitable for the display screen attributes of the terminal equipment 120 without depending on the browsing software of the electronic document file, based on the received display information transmission data and display layout information transmission data regardless of whether or not this terminal equipment is provided with browsing software necessary for browsing the electronic document file, and makes a Web browser display the generated Web page.
