PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration in image quality by cleaning the surface of a belt used in a transfer stage in predetermined timing with a coating agent for improving smoothness, making the surface state of the belt constant so as to prevent the filming of toner on the surface of the belt, and keeping transfer performance constant. SOLUTION: A storage container 70 is attached to the housing 60 of a cleaning unit 6 equipped with a cleaning blade 61 press-contacting with the surface of an intermediate transfer belt 2. The storage container 70 is equipped with at least one storage bag 71. The predetermined amount of coating agent is stored in the storage bag 71. A supply hole 60B is formed on the upper surface of the housing 60. A rail 73 is arranged over the entire width of the housing 60 in the supply hole 60B. A cutter 72 is externally fit to the rail 73. By pulling out the cutter 72 to the front side of the housing 60, a tooth part 72A ruptures the storage bag 71, whereby the coating agent drops to the cleaning blade 61. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
