An impact tool has a piston (2) with a closed-bottomed tubular shape, a ram (3) slidably provided inside the piston (2), a second hammer (4) driven by the ram (3) when the ram reciprocates to strike the hammer with impact, a forward end tool (5) driven by the second hammer (4), and interference means functioning as passage resistance when the ram (3) moves rearward from the forward end of its movement. A cushioning mechanism is provided in front of the second hammer (4), and the cushioning mechanism cushions an impact occurring when the second hammer (4) moves forward and applied by the second hammer (4) to the front end of a cylinder (6) which receives the second hammer (4).
