In an intermittent communication system (1) capable of performing intermi ttent communication between a base station (3) and a mobile station (2), whe n it is judged to need a handover, a transmission means of the mobile statio n (2) transmits a request for stopping the intermittent communication and st arting normal communication at a timing different from that of the intermitt ent communication. After the transmission means transmits the request, a tra nsition means makes a transition from the intermittent communication to the normal communication. A handover execution means executes a handover when th e transition to the normal communication is completed by the transition mean s.
