PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic analysis apparatus for facilitating the management of maintenance of a dispensing probe and its maintenance method. SOLUTION: This automatic analysis apparatus comprises a sample dispensing probe 16 for sucking a sample to be inspected from a sample vessel 17 and delivering it to a reaction vessel 3, a liquid level detector 16a for detecting the liquid level of the sample to be inspected in the sample vessel 17, a dispensing managing section 31 for determining the using frequency of the sample dispensing probe 16, and a sample dispensing arm 10 for moving the sample dispensing probe 16. When the using frequency determined by the dispensing managing section 31 deviates from a preset maintenance tolerance, the sample dispensing probe 16 is moved to a cleaning position, and the fact that the sample dispensing probe 16 has been cleaned is detected by the liquid level detector 16a.
