<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain visibility against the change in external light illuminance in a display apparatus using a spontaneous light emitting element, such as an organic EL element. <P>SOLUTION: Light emission brightness information and external light illuminance information are detected and the adjustment value of a light emission period of each pixel of a display element is calculated based on the information. The display brightness is so controlled that the appropriate visibility can be obtained according to the external light by the adjustment of the light emission period of each pixel. For the purpose of the adjustment of the light emission period, the pulse duty of the light emission control signal to determine the light emission period of each pixel is adjusted and controlled. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
