PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve appropriate focusing accuracy and to suppress a shutter time lag to be a short time when photographing still images in a moving image photographing mode. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus capable of photographing still images during a moving image photographing mode for recording moving images comprises: a setting means (24) for setting the number of pixels of the still image; an instruction means (24) for instructing still image photographing during the moving image photographing mode; focus adjusting means (15, 19, 22) capable of executing first focusing control of controlling focusing by first focusing accuracy during the moving image photographing mode by controlling the position of a focus lens; and a control means (15) for controlling whether or not to make the focus adjusting means execute second focusing control of accuracy higher than the first focusing accuracy corresponding to the number of pixels of the moving image and the number of pixels set by the setting means when still image photographing is instructed.
