Strands of extension hair are bound together to form a connector portion by a blob of adhesive or by being captured within a heat shrunk tube to form an extension lock. The extension lock is then bound to a group of strands of natural hair by the connector portion being clamped together with the strands of the natural hair adjacent the scalp within a further heat shrunk tube of plastic that has a polymer chain elongated in the circumferential direction of the tube. The clamping is achieved without the use of adhesive between the further tube and the hairs within, without knotting of the scalp hairs, and without roughening of the adhesive blob forming the connector portion, all of which were thought to be necessary in earlier known techniques.
