Racking system for bales

Apparatus and methods for serially dispensing bales (5), such as coreless rolls of insulating fibre masses, are disclosed. A dispenser includes a chute in which the bales are vertically stacked, apparatus (3) to support the lowermost bale in the stack, and a dispensing zone (2) below the chute. A bale in the dispensing zone can be removed without interference from the lowermost bale in the chute, and when there is no bale in the dispensing zone the support apparatus (3) can be caused to release the lowermost bale into the zone whilst retaining the next lowermost bale.
