A magnetoresistive element is provided with a first magnetic body (4); a second magnetic body (5); a nonmagnetic body (6) arranged between the first magnetic body (4) and the second magnetic body (5); and an antiferromagnetic body (7) arranged in contact with a side opposite to the nonmagnetic body (6) on the second magnetic body (5). The first magnetic body (4) is provided with a first region (8) wherein a magnetization direction changes depending on data, and a second region (9), which has a magnetization direction different from that of the first region (8), has the magnetization direction that does not substantially change depending on data and is connected to one end portion of the first region (8). Both the second magnetic body (5) and the antiferromagnetic body (7) are arranged in the first region (8) and the second region (9). The magnetization direction of the second magnetic body (5) is different from that of the first region (8) of the first magnetic body (4).
