The reciprocating engine has a working cylinder (1). A working piston (1a) is firmly connected with opposite parts of a continuous working piston rod (2,2a). The working piston rod is guided on both sides out of the working cylinder, primary hydraulic pistons (3,4) are arranged on the opposite ends of the working piston rod, which move to and from in the primary hydraulic cylinders (5,6). The primary hydraulic cylinders are connected with secondary hydraulic cylinders (9,10) over hydraulic lines (7,8).
