METHOD FOR PRODUCING 4-HYDROXY-L-ISOLEUCINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 4-hydroxyisoleucine by using a bacterial-derived enzyme to be prepared in a large amount.

SOLUTION: An L-isoleucine dioxygenase having high activity is obtained from cells transformed with a bacterium such as Escherichia coli by linking a Bacillus thuringiensis-derived L-isoleucine dioxygenase gene to a vector DNA. An L-isoleucine or its salt is subjected to hydroxylation reaction in the presence of an L-isoleucine dioxygenase in an aqueous solvent to produce (2R,3R,4S)-4-hydroxy-L-isoleucine or its salt.
