PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oscillation element of which the wavelength variable width is relatively wide, wavelength sweeping velocity is relatively high, and an oscillation wavelength is long. SOLUTION: The oscillation element comprises a gain medium 103 which has a gain to an electromagnetic wave to be oscillated, resonator structures 104 and 105 for resonating electromagnetic waves, energy injecting devices 122A and 121 which inject pumping energy to the gain medium 103. The gain medium 103 is put between a first negative dielectric constant medium 102 and a second negative dielectric constant medium 101 in each of which the real part of dielectric constant with respect to the electro magnetic wave is negative. At least one of these has electric field applying devices 122B and 121 for applying electric fields to change a depletion region formed at the boundary between the gain medium 103.
