PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pulse generator 100 which has a simple configuration, can vary a repeating frequency over a wide range and generates an optical pulse having a low timing jitter. SOLUTION: This apparatus is provided with: an RF signal generator 110 for generating an RF signal having a signal waveform varying the potential of an output into positive potential and negative potential for a reference voltage and outputting the generated RF signal; a semiconductor laser 140 for allowing its one end to receive a driving current based on an output signal of the RF signal generator 110; and a rectifier 150 for allowing its one end having a reverse polarity with respect to one end of the semiconductor laser 140 to receive a driving current.
