摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester production catalyst which does not contain a dissolution auxiliary except a titanium compound and a phosphorous compound as a stabilizer, has a floating property at places close to the surface of a glycol solvent, after prepared, does not precipitate, accumulate or coagulate on the bottom of a container, an apparatus or the like, can simply be handled, has a high polymerization activity, and gives polymers having good hues. SOLUTION: This polyester production catalyst comprising a reaction product of a titanium compound with a phosphorous compound represented by general formula (1) (R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>are each independently a≤7C alkyl), wherein the molar ratio (phosphorus atom/titanium atom) of phosphorus atoms to titanium atoms in the reaction product is 2.0 to 2.2, and a method for producing the polyester obtained by polycondensing terephthalic acid with ethylene glycol in the presence of the catalyst are provided.
