A method of reminding a vehicle owner to obtain a warrant of fitness (WoF) check for their vehicle is disclosed. The method involves a computer system (4) obtaining information, including the registration plate number and/or vehicle identification number of the vehicle, the expiry date of the WoF of the vehicle, and information for communicating with the vehicle owner. Status information of the vehicle is obtained from a database (12), this status including the current WoF status of the vehicle. If the WoF has not been renewed then a reminder message is generated and sent to the vehicle owner. The method can be used by a WoF provider to provide reminders to customers, and as it is the current WoF status of the vehicle that is checked then no reminder is sent if the vehicle has obtained a WoF through a different provider.
