PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polylactic acid conjugate fiber excellent in resistance to moist heat degradation, mechanical strength and color tone, and usable in various applications including clothing and industrial materials despite using polylactic acid as a constituent. SOLUTION: The polylactic acid conjugate fiber is a sheath/core-type one composed of polylactic acid as the core component and, as the sheath component, an aromatic polyester having ethylene terephthalate as the main repeating unit accounting for 80 mol% or greater. In this conjugate fiber, the sheath/core ratio (cross section area ratio of core to sheath) is (20:80) to (80:20), and the mechanical strength retention percentage after subjected to exposure treatment at 60°C and 90%RH for 500 h is 80% or greater; wherein the mechanical strength retention percentage(%) means a numerical value represented by (tensile strength after exposure treatment/tensile strength before exposure treatment)×100.
