<p>Producing liquid methane from a gas containing methane and carbon dioxide comprises contacting the gas with an amine-containing scrubbing solution to obtain methane, regenerating the scrubbing solution to obtain purified carbon dioxide, liquefying the carbon dioxide in a condenser, drying the methane and compressing it to at least 5 bar, and liquefying the methane by evaporating the liquid carbon dioxide. An independent claim is also included for a plant for carrying out the above process, comprising a scrubbing column; a recycle line including heat exchangers for heating the scrubbing solution, an expansion device for separating carbon dioxide and a heat exchanger for cooling the scrubbing solution; a gas discharge line with a heat exchanger for cooling the gas stream from the expansion device and a separator for separating carbon dioxide from the gas stream; a container for the carbon dioxide; a condenser for liquefying the carbon dioxide; a methane discharge line; a series of compressors for compressing the methane; and a heat exchanger for liquefying the methane connected to a line supplying liquefied carbon dioxide from the container.</p> |
