摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance economy by utilizing fuel cycle cost reduction effect achieved by raising the enrichment of uranium with reducing influence on criticality safety control measures in molding equipment, even when a fuel rod formed by sealing uranium fuel pellets having a uranium enrichment exceeding 5 wt.%. SOLUTION: The fuel assembly for a light water reactor is constituted by squarely arranging a plurality of fuel rods, and is loaded in a light water reactor. At least part of the fuel rods 13 includes uranium fuel pellets 11 having a uranium enrichment exceeding 5 wt.% and gadolinia containing pellets 12 made by adding gadolinia to the uranium fuel having a uranium enrichment exceeding 5 wt.%. The gadolinia pellets are dispersed in the arrangement direction of the uranium fuel pellets 11 sealed in a line. The neutron multiplication factor of the fuel assembly is not higher than the maximum value of the neutron multiplication value of the fuel assembly formed of fuel rods formed by sealing the uranium fuel pellets having a uranium enrichment of 5 wt.% in the whole effective length.
